The 2018 Walk4BrainCancer Ipswich will be the first Walk4BrainCancer event to be held in the city of Ipswich, and will take place in the city's Limestone Park.
Walk organisers, Kieran McLeod and family, are hoping to band together and raise at least $5000 to help in the fight to beat brain cancer.
Kieran is a 16 year old Bremer High School student who has been living with a brain tumour for the past 4 years.
"I'm Kieran McLeod, a 16 year old who has been living with a brain tumour since diagnosis in 2014. During the course of this I have undergone an ETV brain surgery, and commenced radiotherapy and chemotherapy on the 27th of December 2017, and still have several months of chemotherapy remaining.
My tumour had remained stable for much of the time since diagnosis, only flaring up in the past 6 months. Being told that you need chemotherapy is, interesting to say the least. Makes you feel like a balloon that has been in the hands of a toddler with scissors; deflated.
One of the things that I have tried so hard to maintain throughout all of this is to never lose my personality, and who doesn't love someone making brain tumour jokes consistantly.
Having been a part of the 2017 Brisbane event, raising over $2000, I felt that I had to do something to help others.
I will be fine, but we have to do what we can to help those who aren't so lucky."
